THIRD EYE WORKSHOPS

Third Eye workshops use fully notated scores. Participants explore phase techniques, open form approaches, and an unpredictable conductor. Depending on the occasion the workshop leans either towards contemporary classical or jazz forms.

For all-electronic Dark Circuits workshops see here.

Festival Performance

With professional musicians such as at Yaroslavl Jazz Festival 2005, Staatstheater Kassel/Germany 2012, or at the 416 Festival Toronto with the Rub Out The Word Ensemble 2015. One afternoon to get acquainted with the score and the conducting signs, followed by the performance.

For the Rub Out The Word Ensemble I worked with materials the participants had composed beforehand, plus I did the live sound processing of the ensemble.

Third Eye Chamber/Jazz Workshop

Such as Southstreet Seaport 2014, or Russia 2005. Participants explore phase techniques, open form approaches, and an unpredictable conductor. Depending on the occasion the workshop leans either towards contemporary classical or jazz forms. Or both.

See a detailed workshop announcement here.

Third Eye Jazz Ensemble

Such as on a tour with professional musicians in Russia 2013. The pieces were written for the performers using phase techniques, and were constantly rearranged in each of the 6 performances. The music is available on Bandcamp, see below.

Over Skype / Google Hangout

Occasionally a workshop may be possible over the internet, such as in 2014 with students of the Musrara Institute, Jerusalem.

Bitches Brew Workshop

The original “Third Eye” workshop at the Sound Symposium Festival in St. John’s in 2004! Using material from Miles’ Bitches Brew phase (until 1974), the pieces get rearranged and newly combined by the conductor. The music is available on Bandcamp, see below.
