STEVE HOROWITZ’S CODE ENSEMBLE PLAYS
THE MUSIC OF THIRD EYE ORCHESTRA

Center For New Music
Friday August 10th, 2018 @ 8pm
55 Taylor St, San Francisco, CA 94102

New York composer Hans Tammen likes to set sounds in motion, and then sit back to watch the movements unfold. Unsettling, frantic and anti-sentimental, he fuses unremitting polyrhythms with ethereal yet roughly sewn soundscapes, “a unique, immediate, visceral and engaging musical experience.” (Irwin Block / Avant Music News).

Tammen, currently in residence at Lucas Artists Residencies Montalvo, makes a rare appearance in San Francisco with new works for Steve Horowitz’s Code Ensemble. Hans borrows from Charles Ives’ polytonality, Steve Coleman’s rhythmic complexity, Karlheinz Stockhausen’s organization of sounds and Earle Brown’s approach to form.
