It's the thirteenth year of Screen Compositions; in Chinese culture (and we're in Chinatown) 13 is very lucky and means "definitely vibrant"; so this 2017 edition presents a most definitely vibrant collection of intersections of moving image with sonic art; a program of screen works representing dynamic two-way collaborations between video/film artists and sound/music artists specifically intended for single-channel projection with no live or performance component
In "Methods Of Expansion And Contraction" disparate scenes and subjects form a continuous montage of contrastive timbres, textures and sonic eruptions, occasionally interrupted by quiet pulses. The work is presented on a 16-channel sound system, the sounds were created on a Buchla Music Easel and Hordijk Blippoo Box.
Part of the Vox Novus Festival, 60×60 Dance pairs 60 dance ensembles with 60 composers for 60 one-minute performances synchronized with an analog clock. The one-hour dance extravaganza presents a slice of what is happening in the contemporary music scene and the world of modern dance. Two performances of 60×60 Dance will be presented at the Winter Garden Atrium at Brookfield place in Downtown Manhattan.
